TLRs, I am a TLR Rollei fan, but the best models are out of site price wise. Square format is an aquired taste, but once you have decided to adapt it is nice. Don't disregard a Hassleblad or one of the Rollei SL66, I believe the latest model of the SL66 (had a name change to ?) had an integrated meter.

Mamiya RB67 like the Pentax smart car size but has changable backs, a big plus. I have never heard of them being plastic or cheap, their prices certainly aren't. The Mamiya 66 and 6x7 have about the best lenses in medium format next to Hassleblad and Rollei SL66. The Pentax 6x7 is as big as a smart car and just about as heavy, but excellent optics and has a reputation for durability. Buying anything that large without seeing/handling it seems risky.ĭon't do anything until you can hold and take a few frames. Want to visit a good/large used photo store and actually handle some of MF gear. Great to hear! How's reliability & serviceability? I am assuming there's no manufacturer support anymore, and there are reputable independent repair shops similar to Leica ecosystem?Ĭan't wait for C-19 restrictions to be over. What else am I missing? Which medium format camera you recommend? Let's just say the budget is unlimited, to make it more interesting.Īmen! They'll have to rip my Pentax 67II with its AE finder from my cold dead hands by its rosewood grip! The 45mm and 75mm lens are my two go to lenses. I would be fine with a single lens, as long as it's 35-40mm equivalent. Not to offend Mamiya 7 users, but the plastic colors and body/lens proportions just don't work for me. Never held a Mamiya 6/7 in my hands, but they look very "plasticy" judging by online photos, and overall. I've been looking at Fuji GF670 but I'm not sure I want a folder. Light meter is a must, and aperture-priority shooting is extremely nice to have. My exposures are perfect, and it's all about framing and focusing for me, not "matching the needle" or consulting with another device like a light meter or an iPhone app. Why? Because I absolutely love shooting with FM3a in aperture-priority mode. I think I want either 6圆 or 6x7, and I am fairly certain that I want a meter in my camera. I keep thinking about buying a medium-format camera, there's just something special about MF tonality and it's not even about resolution.
